Every person has the ability to positively impact the life of another.

Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to children in the U.S. and Canada that have experienced hair loss for any reason. Through the generosity and donations of others, Locks of Love gives kids a sense of confidence and normalcy, sometimes even at no cost to those in need.

There are many ways to contribute to Locks of Love. The most well-known form of donation, of course, is donating hair. In order to donate hair to this organization, hair must be six to ten inches in length and free from

any chemical treatments such as highlights. After braiding the hair and securing a ponytail at each end of the hair to be donated, the hair is ready to be cut and sent off. Also, people who donate their hair are rewarded with a certificate from Locks of Love for their contribution.

Local hair salon Rae’s Cuts and Styles, located at 102 Morton Street in Pottsboro, has partnered with Locks of Love for over twenty years. Having customers that both donate and wear wigs, hairstylist Rae Perdue couldn’t agree more about what an “awesome organization” Locks of Love is. All hairstylists world wide are permitted to cut hair that is do be donated to Locks of Love. She says that all hairstylists want to help their clients “achieve their goal” of helping a child in need. To schedule an appointment, or for more information, call Rae at 903-786-9652

For those who wish to contribute in other ways, Locks of Love provides many options, all of which can be found on their website, www.locksoflove.org. Just a few of the numerous donation opportunities include purchasing necklaces or teddy bears whose profits go to the organization, using an Albertson’s Locks of Love partnership card when making a purchase at Albertson’s, or even hosting an event to fundraise for the organization.

The moment to make a change, to help someone in need, to create a spark, awaits. Call Rae’s Shop or go to locksoflove.org to bring a little bit happiness to a child’s life, and their head.
